The eighty-first session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) will be held from 21 to 25 April 2025 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok. Guided by the theme " Regional cooperation for resilient and sustainable urban development in Asia and the Pacific ", the eighty-first session will be an opportunity to foster inclusive urban growth and promote steadfast action for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels. The Organizational Meeting of the 22nd Session of the High-level Committee on South-South Cooperation will elect the Bureau of the 22nd session. 1. Adoption of the agenda of the organizational meeting. 2. Election of the President of the twenty-second session. 3. Election of officers other than the President. 4. Adoption of the agenda of the twenty-second session and organization of work The Thematic Discussion of the 22nd session, under consideration by the Bureau of the High-level Committee, is " Accelerating the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: South-South Cooperation as a Driver for Transformation ". The discussion will focus on the role of Science, Technology, and Innovation, including the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence, in addressing global development challenges and accelerating SDG achievements. Briefing on the logistical arrangements for the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4).

The 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4) is set to take place from 30 June to 3 July 2025 in Sevilla, Spain. The Conference will be held in FIBES Sevilla Exhibition and Conference Centre. FFD4 aspires to build a renewed global financing framework that will unlock greater volumes of capital at a lower cost . In Sevilla, and through a renewed global financing framework, leaders are taking action to deliver an SDG investment push and to reform the international financial architecture to enable the transformative change that the world urgently needs . Theme: " Addressing Structural Barriers to Sustainable Development in Middle-Income Countries ". Panel Discussion: " International development cooperation with middle-income countries, including policy and financial decisions " The panel will discuss the role of various types of international development cooperation with middle-income countries in addressing their diverse needs, and the importance of providing coordinated and inclusive support to middle-income countries based on their specific challenges. Over 100 countries are currently characterized by the World Bank as middle-income, with Gross National Income per capita between USD$1,146 and USD$14,005. Altogether, middle-income countries account for around 75 per cent of global population, 60 per cent of the world's poor, and one third of global gross domestic product. Theme: "Addressing Structural Barriers to Sustainable Development in Middle-Income Countries". Opening segment Plenary segment Over 100 countries are currently characterized by the World Bank as middle-income, with Gross National Income per capita between USD$1,146 and USD$14,005. All together, middle-income countries account for around 75% of global population, 60% of the world's poor, and one third of global gross domestic product. The high-level meeting will discuss the structural barriers for middle-income countries in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and explore the impact of new approaches that go beyond gross domestic produc t, which could inform international development cooperation, including policy and financial decisions.
